DRAGONFLY

a feature film screenplay

This one has been circulating since 2001 - but as it's set in 1966 it never dates.

A coming of age story set in Cornwall during the summer of '66 - with no mention of the World Cup.  Angela  Jewell, a determined sixteen year old who wants more from her life than her mother's narrow, conformist plans, and the exotic characters she meets at Porthenis airfield on the most westerly peninsular of England have other things on their minds.

The film features two Dragon Rapide aircraft which Charlie Freeman, a former World War 2 boomber pilot and lately a senior captain at BOAC, has brought to Porthenis to start his own airline.  Exciting and dramatic aerial sequences counterpoint the dramatic relationship between Angle and Charlie, and all the characters they encounter.

The photograph of the Dragon Rapide above was taken at the Classic Air Force aviation museum at Newquay airport inb Cornwall.  In June this year you too can fly in one of these fabulous planes (I've done it and it is fab!)

So we have the script, the planes and the airfield - we just need the cash !   Anyone interested, please drop me a line and let's talk !

ONE THING WAS CERTAIN

This is a longer short than 'Express Yourself' (couldn't be much shorter!) and it's the next film I'm planning to make.

The film will be aimed at both the festival circuit and half-hour television slots that require classically structured screenplays but with a dramatic edge that is rarely seen on television.

It's a mystery psychological crime drama and I think it's time may have come.  It's set in Cornwall but could be about any place where people think they've escaped - and the surprising people and events they might find there.

The principal character, Angela Jester, is a strong woman who has to confront powerful forces beyond her experience.  In her early 50s this is a part that I hope will appeal to an actress of considerable professional standing.  I am eager to hear from financiers who would like to be involved.

OCEANA
Oceana is the story of three people who come together on the highways of the ocean, because there’s no place left ashore.

On a summer night in a seaside resort on the southwest coast of France, a wild teenage American girl (JO) is rescued from a man she has mugged by a handsome young Anglo-Frenchman (RAOUL).  He offers her a way out of town: a ride on his luxury yacht.  However, once clear of land, rescue turns to terror when Jo discovers a woman (YELENA), drugged and tied-up in one of the cabins, who tells her the man whose yacht they are on will kill them both.

As if Jo didn't have troubles enough it transpires that Raoul is not the wealthy playboy she imagined but has stolen the yacht, and is a notorious smuggler and yacht thief - a modern-day pirate.  Yelena is a Paris-based financier who has been duped by her husband & business partner into fronting a series of multi-million dollar frauds in her native Russia and doesn't know who kidnapped her.
So begins a voyage of escape along the coasts of western France and northern Spain.  The outlaws have been used to living and surviving alone, but together they forge a bond that enables them to confront the worst that life can throw at them.
The relationships twist and turn as Yelena discovers that both the police and her husband want her dead; while Jo finds in Raoul and Yelena the family she never had; and Raoul comes to realize that both women are more than a match for the adventures they encounter.
The story climaxes in a final confrontation with Yelena's husband which leaves Raoul and Yelena free to travel the oceans and offers Jo another chance to make a life ashore.  But there is one final twist...

Oceana is a romantic adventure story for grown-ups.  Set on the infamous wild seas of the Bay of Biscay and along the unexploited Atlantic coasts of France and Spain it is a contemporary pirate movie.
